Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture Donate 125 Mattresses to Salvation Army

Norton, MA, April 27, 2000 — Phyllis and Bernie Rubin (pictured from left to right), a.k.a. Bernie & Phyl, founders of Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture, are thanked by Captain John Ducksworth, South End Area Coordinator for The Salvation Army for their donation of 125 new Sealy mattresses worth over $20,000. The mattresses will replace all of the old, worn-out beds at The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Center, a resident addiction treatment facility in Boston’s South End. The donation kicked off the launch of Bernie & Phyl’s “Friends In Need Foundation,” which will donate furniture to homeless shelters and other charitable organizations on an ongoing basis across the state.
